About ICC

Islamic Centre of Cambridge (ICC) is a charitable non-profit organization that has been established by members of Muslim community in Cambridge and registered with the Province of Ontario in December 1984?.

The mission of ICC is to provide a place for Muslims to get together for religious and social events and to provide religious education for children. In addition by efforts and action programs we hope to promote building of communities of Muslims in the region of Waterloo and surrounding regions.

Historical Perspective:

1980 Purchased an old school house on Wellington Road 32 under the banner of Pakistan Canada Association
1982 Islamic Centre of Cambridge (ICC) was established as an organization to serve Muslim needs in Cambridge and surrounding areas
1983 Was Granted Registered Charity Status & was incorporated with the Ontario Government
1984 Purchased the existing property
1985 Sold PCA Muslim Centre
1987 ICC Joined Canadian Islamic Trust
1988 Started Construction on the existing site
1990-1995 Purchased the land surrounding the building (4.3 acres now in total)
1992 Completion of Phase I
Beginning of Islamic School of Cambridge with emphasis on Tehfiz program with 18 students.
1995 Phase II construction started. However, construction got halted due to lack of funds at that time.
1998 Construction started again
1999-2000 Islamic Development Bank provided financial assistance to build the school. This kind gesture was a shot in the arm and built up the momentum towards the completion of Phase II
Since 1998 Completed the classrooms behind the building
Completed part of the mosque and took the partial occupancy permit
2003 Purchased another property (closer to Mosque) for Imam's residence with a single donation from a community member
2004 Completion of Phase II
Start of Immediate Future Plans
Phase III:
a. Gymnasium as part of the school
b. Muslim Cemetery

Financial Support for ICC
ICC is supported financially by its members through membership dues and also by donations by Muslims in the region and in Canada at large. The ICC does not receive any financial support from any government agency.

Membership
Membership is open to all Muslims irrespective of color, race national origin, and ethnicity. The ICC is run by its "Board of Directors" on behalf of its members.

Facilities Committee
Facilities Committee is responsible for the following:

- Maintenance, to include Islamic Center of Cambridge facility and landscape management
- Security
- Safety
- Activity coordination
- Planning

Social Affairs committee
Social Affairs Committee is responsible for the social activities at the Islamic Centre of Cambridge. These activities may include:

- Organizing community picnics
- Organizing monthly community dinner
- Organizing the Eids' parties
- Organize visits to sick brothers/sisters
- Organize all the other social activities in the masjid

Dawa Committee
The responsibilities of the Dawa Committee is to:

- Inform and educate the Non-Muslims about the Religion of Islam.
- Spread Islam in this part of the world by inviting people to open houses at the Mosque, visiting, and giving presentation at houses of worship and schools in the area,
- Participate in religious programs such as the Interfaith program.
- Answer any questions asked by the people who come to the Mosque or by e-mail.
- Support the Cambridge community needs of knowledge about Islam through classes.
- TV and radio talks,
-Plan, develop and execute programs for the educational activities in the organization, such as
· Evening classes to Learn to Read Quran for children
