March 17, 2020
As you all know, the COVID-19 virus has changed the way we interact with each other. Based on the most recent announcements and many press conferences held by government officials and public health authorities, the Islamic Centre of Cambridge has decided to suspend daily congregational prayers at the Jami Mosque and will not hold the weekly Friday prayer until further notice. Starting Wednesday, March 18, 2020 the doors of the Jami Mosque will remain closed until further notice.
We apologize for the inconvenience this causes our congregants; however, it has become extremely clear in the light of information we have received that this was a necessary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of our congregation. We urge the community to continue to check public health’s website for information as it is updated regularly: https://www.publichealthontario.ca.
We strongly suggest to our seniors to please consider alternate arrangements when it comes to prayers, such as praying at home, as they are the most vulnerable in our community. We also encourage our congregants to reach out and support the elderly as they need our support.
